Care tips for your mulberry silk garments
Your mulberry silk garments are precious, but their care is simpler than you might think. With just a few simple steps, you can preserve their softness, shine, and quality for many years.
1. Washing
Hand washing is the safest method to preserve the delicacy of silk.
-
By hand: Use lukewarm water (maximum 30°C / 86°F) and a special silk detergent or a neutral pH soap. Let soak for 3 to 5 minutes without rubbing. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
-
In the machine: If using a washing machine, place the garment in a mesh laundry bag for protection. Select a delicate or “silk” program with cold water (maximum 30°C / 86°F). Do not use fabric softener.
2. Drying
Silk does not like being wrung or exposed to heat.
-
Water removal: Gently press the garment to remove excess water without wringing it. The best method is to roll it in a clean, dry towel to absorb moisture.
-
Drying: Hang the garment on a padded hanger, away from direct sunlight or any heat source. Never tumble dry.
3. Ironing
Iron your silk garment while it is still slightly damp. Use a low-temperature setting (the “silk” or one-dot setting) and always iron on the reverse side to protect its natural shine.
